Tips for Finding a Caregiver

Hiring the right caregiver is a deeply-personal experience. For many parents it can be a stressful process to find the right person who will care for your child. Care on the Way aims to make this process as seamless as possible. In the meantime, take a look at some of the tips recommended to find the perfect caregiver for your family:

Make a List of Your Child’s Needs:
Every child’s needs are different. Think carefully about what makes your child unique and what requirements a caregiver will need. Having a list of requirements will help eliminate caregivers who are unable to meet this criteria.

Set Up a Phone Call:
Once you’ve identified a few potential caregivers, set up a screening call. Write a list of questions in advance that you might have. Create scenarios that might take place with your child and ask how the caregiver will respond. Talk to the caregiver about their experiences and have them clarify why they are the right fit for your family.

Get References and Do a Background Check:
Ask for at least three references, follow up on calling them. You will want to get a sense of the caregiver’s abilities and what they were used to on a daily basis. The needs of one family might not be your needs and you will want to make sure the caregiver can handle the unique needs of your child. Lastly, do a background check.

Set Up an In-Person Interview With You and Your Family:
Once you find a few potential candidates, have them stop by to meet you and your family. Introduce them to your child and see how they interact with them. Watching their interactions and seeing how the caregiver reacts to your child will give you a sense if they are the right fit.

Trust Your Intuition:
Trust your gut, you know what is best for your family and who feels like the right fit.

Finding the right caregiver can be challenging. Using the above tips will help you identify the strongest candidate for your family.
