A Fresh Start

It’s no secret that many of us are feeling the fatigue of being in a pandemic for more than two years. Many of us have made sacrifices and many adjustments over the past few years, but 2022 offers a chance for us to move forward and use what we have learned so far. We can use this time as an opportunity as we enter a new year and our third year of being in a pandemic – and this all begins with our self-care.

For many of us, our routines and commitment to self-care have fallen to the wayside. This year, we can recommit to taking better care of ourselves so we can show up as our best self for those we love. Through small acts, creating a simple self-care routine can have transformational power in our lives. Below are a few tips on getting started:

A Gratitude Journal: One simple way to begin our day is two write two things we are grateful for each day. Keep a gratitude journal by your bed. And each morning, start your day by jotting down two things you are grateful for. You can also do the same each night before you go to bed as you reflect on two items that you are thankful for from that day. Taking a moment each day to practice what you are grateful for is an easy reset and can immediately change how you are feeling.

Daily Meditation: Starting a meditation practice isn’t easy. Most people will tell you how difficult getting started can be, they will also tell you how powerful it is once you commit to a practice. There are many free guided meditation apps and videos available to get started. Set aside 10-minutes a day to either practice deep breathing or use a guided meditation. It’s easy for many of us to overthink these days. Meditation allows us to clear our minds and focus on the present.

Walking: Walking has incredible physical and mental health benefits. It’s an easy form of exercise that can make us feel calm too. Set aside thirty minutes each day to take a walk. You can use this time to make phone calls and connect with loved ones or just go solo and take time for yourself. Either way, there are multiple benefits to moving your body each day.

Exercise:  Find a workout you love and commit to it three times a week. We all know we should exercise regularly, but it can be hard to find time every day. Find a workout you enjoy, the options are endless and commit to spending three days a week to your workout. One great benefit of exercise is that it immediately improves our mood.

Be Social: Whether it’s a phone call or in-person, make sure you are actively connecting with loved ones. The pandemic has changed the way we all engage with one another, and it takes more effort to stay connected. But staying connected with our friends, family, neighbors, and community has a great impact on our well-being. Schedule phone calls or walks and make it a habit to connect with your circle regularly.

We know it’s been a hard time for everyone. In 2022, we can all commit to small tasks each day that allow us to live more fully and in the present.

Care On the Way wishes you all a bright, prosperous, and healthy New Year!
