Family Safety Tips
- How does Care On the Way protect my personal information?
Care On the Way prioritizes your privacy and security. All personal information you share is securely stored on our protected servers. We do not sell, share, or disclose any personally identifiable information to third-party vendors.
- What precautions does Care On the Way take when onboarding care providers?
Your safety is our top priority. All care providers must pass a background check conducted by our partner, Sterling, a global leader in background and identity services. The screening includes:
- Social Security Number (SSN) Trace
- County Criminal Search
- 7-Year Address History
- Enhanced Nationwide Search
- Department of Justice (DOJ) Sex Offender Registry Check
- Real-time workforce monitoring
For more details, please visit Sterling’s FAQ site.
- How do I know if a care provider has passed the verification process?
Care providers who have successfully completed the background check will have a verified icon displayed on their profile. This indicates they have completed a background check through Sterling.
- Why should I use Care On the Way’s messaging system?
Using our in-app messaging system ensures your privacy and security while communicating with care providers. It also enables you to report any inappropriate messages, scams, or suspicious activity directly through the platform.
- What types of behavior should I report, and how?
If you encounter suspicious, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, report it immediately through the app or send an email to hello@careontheway.com.
Examples of reportable issues:
🚩 Harassment or inappropriate messages
🚩 Suspicious or fraudulent activity
🚩 Threats or safety concerns - What happens after I report an issue?
Care On the Way will:
1️⃣ Document the report.
2️⃣ Determine appropriate platform actions, if necessary.
3️⃣ Follow up with necessary policy enforcement steps. - Should I research potential care providers?
Absolutely! We encourage parents to conduct their own research to ensure they hire someone they feel comfortable with. You can look into potential care providers by:
🔍 Checking their profile details & reviews
🔍 Reviewing their online presence (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
🔍 Asking for personal and professional references - Should I schedule an in-person interview?
Yes. We strongly encourage conducting the first meeting in a public place (e.g., coffee shop, mall, or park). Virtual meetings via video calls are also a good alternative.
🚨 Care On the Way does not arrange interviews and is not liable for any interactions between users, whether in-person or virtual.
- What kind of questions should I ask a care provider during the interview?
Consider asking:
- How long have you been a care provider?
- What types of special needs are you experienced with?
- Do you have any certifications (e.g., CPR, Crisis Prevention)?
- Can you provide references?
- How do you handle emergencies or difficult situations?
- What are the limitations of background checks?
Background checks help provide insight into a care provider’s history, but they have certain limitations. The information searched and reported varies by state and county due to differences in record-keeping and reporting systems. Not all jurisdictions update records in real time, and some may not provide complete or accessible information. Additionally, background checks rely on the accuracy of the personal details submitted by the care provider. If incorrect or outdated information is provided, it may impact the results.
Care On the Way does not verify the accuracy of background checks, independently investigate care providers, or guarantee that all criminal history is accounted for. Background checks are only one tool in evaluating a care provider, and families should conduct interviews, request references, and use their own judgment when making hiring decisions.
