Caregiver Safety Tips

  • How do you protect my information?

The information you share with Care On the Way stays within our protected servers. We do not sell, share, or provide any personally identifiable information to third-party vendors because we take pride in honoring your privacy, safety, and security.

  • Why do you run background checks?

Safety is our number one priority and every caregiver who joins the Care On the Way app will need to pass a background screening. The background check covers the following items:

For more information on Sterling’s screening and background check process, please visit Sterling’s FAQ site.

  • What kind of information do you need to run a background check?

Care On the Way and Sterling will need the following from you:

    • Legal name
    • Permanent address
    • Birthdate
    • Social Security Number

The background check will be performed by Sterling.

  • Why do you need my SSN?

Your Social Security Number is used to run a background check. If you do not have a Social Security Number we won’t be able to add you to the Care On the Way’s network. We take privacy very seriously, which means we don’t share your SSN with anyone other than Sterling, our third-party background check vendor. Read our Privacy Policy.

  • What happens if I don’t have a SSN?

You must have a Social Security Number to work with us. Care On the Way requires that all caregivers provide their Social Security Number before they can serve our parent community.

  • How can I check the status of my background clearance?

You will be sent an email from Care On the Way or our third-party vendor, Sterling, when your background check has cleared. You will also receive the verified icon on your profile page.

  • What are Care On the Way’s principles and ethical code of conduct?

Accountability – is one of our biggest values at Care On the Way. It’s also one of the major contributors to how well your profile page functions which is why we have such strict cancellation policy. Profiles that do not uphold our principles and code of conduct or fall below a certain threshold will be suspended or removed from Care On the Way.

  • Should I schedule an in-person interview?

It is strongly encouraged to conduct your first in-person meeting at a public location, such as a coffee shop, mall or park to ensure you are being hired by someone you are comfortable working with. Meeting via video or FaceTime may also serve as an alternative option.

Care On the Way will not be held liable for any misconduct between parties during on and off-site in person or video interviews.

  • How do I communicate with a potential employer?

Care On the Way offers an in-app messaging system that allows you to communicate with parents. We have implemented this so you don’t have to share any of your personal contact information.

  • Why should I use Care On the Way’s messaging system and not provide my personal contact information?

Care On the Way takes privacy and behavioral conduct very seriously. When using our messaging system, you’ll be able to report any offensive messages, spam, scam, suspicious or inappropriate content. If you see something, say something.

Care On the Way will acknowledge receipt of your report, run a thorough internal investigation and contact you once the study has been completed.
