- Why do you need my SSN?
Your Social Security Number is used to run a background check. If you do not have a Social Security Number we won’t be able to add you to the Care On the Way’s network. We take privacy very seriously, which means we don’t share your SSN with anyone other than Sterling, our third-party background check vendor. Read our Privacy Policy.

You must have a Social Security Number to work with us. Care On the Way requires that all caregivers provide their Social Security Number before they can serve our parent community.
- How can I check the status of my background clearance?
You will be sent an email from Care On the Way or our third-party vendor, Sterling, when your background check has cleared. You will also receive the verified icon on your profile page.
